If you grew up with sweet tea, you know it is an integral part of Southern culture. Everyone from your grandma to your neighbor to your favorite restaurant serves it.

Even if you aren't from the South, you've probably enjoyed a Sweet Tea on a hot, humid day and thought, "well, why don't we have this?"

It's no secret that the ingredient that makes Sweet Tea sweet is sugar. AND LOTS OF IT.

That, my friend, is where Skinny Sweet Tea comes in to save the day.

Who Ever Heard of Skinny Sweet Tea?

Ok, we get it. Sugar tastes good. This is not news. But you wouldn't be here if you weren't already reducing sugar in your diet.

From midlife metabolism to cravings and brain fog, it turns out that too much sugar is not much of a treat at all. The "sweet" part of Sweet tea can get some of us in trouble. For example, the McDonald's large sweet tea has 370 calories and 88 grams of sugar. O.M.G.

If you're about that low-sugar life, you may have already given up this nostalgic treat. We have a suggestion for you. Let's reimagine Sweet Tea with Sinless Syrup and make Skinny Sweet Tea!

When to Serve Sweet Tea

Skinny Sweet Tea is a Summertime favorite because it is serve cold. The sweetness and the caffeine of black tea help to perk you up when the humidity wears you down. It also pairs fabulously with well-seasoned BBQ.

Serve Skinny Sweet Tea on Memorial Day and Father's Day. Bring it to the family picnic as a low sugar surprise. Make a pitcher on Sunday and enjoy it all week long.

How to Make Skinny Sweet Tea

For the quickest tea, you'll want to boil about 4 cups of water. Remove the pan from heat and add 10-12 black tea bags to steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and stir in 3/4 Cup of Miss Mary's Sugar Free Sinless Simple Syrup.

Once combined, pour the tea concentrate into a gallon drink dispenser or pitcher and add 3 quarts of cold, filtered water. Refrigerate until very cold and serve over ice.

If your kitchen is too hot or you don't have an electric kettle, an eco-friendly way to make a large batch of tea is to let the sun brew it. You'll want to use a large, glass container with a lid. Fill it with water and add your tea bags. Close the lid tight and place in the sunniest part of your yard or patio. Brew for 4 hours or until the tea is a rich color.

Try these Skinny Sweet Tea Variations

You may find that you like your iced tea a little more or a little less sweet than our recipe. In that case, add the Sugar Free Sinless Simple Syrup 1/4 Cup at a time until you reach your desired sweetness.

MINT

If you have fresh mint on hand, you may want to add a sachet of freshly torn leaves to the tea when it is steeping. The oil from the mint leaves will make the tea both fragrant and refreshing. Discard the sachet before serving.

LEMON

Adding something as tart as lemon or lemon juice to a sweet tea might not sound right, but it sure tastes right! If you like the bright citrus of lemon, you can serve a wedge with each glass or add the juice of one or more lemon(s) to your Skinny Sweet Tea batch.
