Is the Basil Grapefruit Gin & Tonic Keto-friendly?

This refreshing Summer cocktail is absolutely keto-friendly – at least, the way we make it!

Gin is about 90 calories an ounce, but has zero sugar. Miss Mary's Lite Paloma Mix is 30 calories per 3 ounces and only 1g of sugar. BOOM. How you like us now? 😆

Tonic water can be high in calories, but Zevia Mixers makes a 0-calorie version without artificial sweeteners. 👏 Hooray for better-for-you ingredients!

Add as much fresh basil as you like and you're still at... *checks math* >1g of sugar for this cocktail. You won't believe your tastebuds, but it's all true.

Why Serve the Basil Grapefruit Gin & Tonic?

The combination of flavors in this cocktail just work. Gin is an aromatic spirit and brings a lot to the party on its own. There are so many amazing small batch gins, we recommend trying a few to find the one you like best.

Tonic water, with its unmistakable flavor, contains quinine from South American cinchona bark. When it was discovered that this bitter chemical could treat or even prevent malaria, humanity's war against mosquitos tipsied in our favor. The "G&T" as it is affectionately called, became a hit during hot, wet seasons.

This Basil Grapefruit Gin & Tonic will be right at home at your next backyard gathering, pool party, or music in the park.

In this recipe, we add grapefruit for its lively taste and scent. It is sometimes used in aromatherapy for energizing and alertness. It will definitely wake up your tastebuds! The Lite Paloma Mix doesn't have a sharp grapefruit flavor that takes tart into bitter. Think ruby-red grapefruit, instead. It is the kinder, sweeter of the two. The mix has a hint of sweetness that still allows the citrus flavors shine through.

Because gin is so herbaceous, any fresh herbs just escalate those notes. Basil is a great Summer herb and looks beautiful in the glass.

This Summer cocktail recipe is quick and easy to make. In fact, you could make a pitcher of it for your next get together!
