What the heck is a "Dirty Soda?"

Dirty Sodas originated in Utah, where the company Swig Drinks began adding flavors and cream to cola, root beer, and the like. These delicious combinations were wildly popular with anyone looking for non-alcoholic beverages, but especially with younger audiences.

As more people started reaching for something other than a cocktail to whet their whistle, Dirty Sodas started making their way into family parties, sleepovers, and trendy pop-up stores.

Is Soda Making a Comeback?

Soda, aka "Coke," "Pop," and "Cola," is still a popular alternative to coffee. If you don't love the taste of coffee, but still want a jolt of caffeine, soda can hit the spot.

But many of us take one look at the added sugars on the label and say, "No thank you." Are diet sodas the answer? Well, not if you want to avoid artificial sweeteners.

So, what's the alternative?

Plenty of "better-for-you" sodas have hit the market. Some even make claims for actual health benefits. (?!?!) Our goto has always been the Zevia® brand of sodas. You can find them in most grocery stores including Aldi. (LOVE YOU, ALDI!)

On our mixology mission to create these dirty sodas, we discovered the fabulous 30-can variety pack at Costco. 😍 Some of those flavors might not be suited for additional syrup flavoring, but that's not going to stop us from trying!

Are Dirty Sodas a Summer Drink?

Those of us in Northern states are *probably* more likely to enjoy hot beverages on the regular, with plenty of exceptions, of course. But from our local sample, iced-anything sure does increase in popularity during the Summer.

As for Dirty Sodas being a Summer Drink? That's not a call we can make for you. The fizzy soda is a treat all by itself. The splash of heavy cream makes it almost milk-shakey.

Our taste testers declared that it was surprisingly refreshing and satisfying.

We think it's going to be a hit whenever you try it.
