Mardi Gras Hurricane Mary
Our front-row view of Hurricane Ian in Autumn 2022 made us a little less friendly to a cocktail called the Hurricane, but we're taking our cue from N'awlins on this and pouring this big, easy beverage.
You probably know - the hurricane cocktails made in New Orleans and any place that tries to copy them are VERY sweet. (We suspect it is either to cover up the taste of the alcohol or maybe to hide an underpour.) The Bacardi Hurricane packs in 16 g of sugar and 280 calories. Yikes.
We're a hard 'no' on sugar, so here's a Hurricane Mary instead. Satisfy your Mardi Gras cravings without any sugar shenanigans!
INGREDIENTS - What You Need
- 1.5 oz Dark Rum
- 1.5 oz Light Rum
- 1 oz Miss Mary's Paloma Mix
- 1 oz Miss Mary's Old Fashioned Mix
- Orange & Cherry Garnish
INSTRUCTIONS - How to Make
- Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well.
- Muddle the flesh of an orange in the bottom of a hurricane glass, then top with fresh ice.
- Strain your beverage into the glass and garnish with a orange wedge & cherry.
MISS MARY'S TIP:
The flavor profile of a hurricane is orange, cherry, and passionfruit. Our version is close enough that you might not even notice the difference... or you might like it better. If you find that you really miss the passionfruit, try replacing the Paloma Mix with Bai Dominica Dragon Passionfruit which is also just 1 g of sugar and made with no artificial sweeteners. We love how they look out for your gut health like that!
