LOW CAL COCKTAIL
Dear Miss Mary,
I’m looking for low cal cocktail ideas that are more festive than a “can.”
My running club is getting together for a birthday celebration and I don’t want anyone giving me the side-eye for serving up sugary or heavy drinks.
What can you suggest for us?
Sincerely,
Serena
Dear Svelte Serena,
Well, “sugar”… you’ve come to the right place for low cal cocktails.
Did you know that Miss Mary’s Margarita and Paloma Mixers are under 30 calories per serving?
Even better? They’re so darn delicious, they’ll tickle your fit friends right down to their Hokas.
My Paloma mix is muy versatile. Try it with tequila, as the fiesta gods intended, or with vodka, gin, even a light beer for a super-refreshing shandy.
If anyone brings wine, you can pour it over ice along with sparkling water to make spritzers. It doesn’t make the wine any less sugary, but they’ll end up drinking less of it. My Margarita Mix can also be made with bubbly water (with or without tequila) for an effervescent, low cal cocktail. Here’s a little secret – add plenty of fresh garnish (lime, lemon, jalapeño, mint, etc.) and a mini pinch of salt. Those powerful flavors and the pretty visual mean no one will miss the heavier-pour option.
You could also freeze Miss Mary’s Margarita Mix and a low-sugar sangria (in separate containers) to serve up frozen low cal cocktails (or top with sparkling wine if you’re feeling extra).
On a hot day, this is all kinds of fabulous.
I sure hope that helps. Write back and let me know how it goes!
