What is a Parfait?
The word "parfait" is French and refers to a layered dessert. Their version is made with a custard of sorts (think eggs, cream, & sugar), like a frozen trifle. It's become more common in the U.S. for parfaits to be made with yogurt, fruit, and granola.
That's exactly where we took this recipe.
How to Make the Pumpkin Protein Parfait
In a parfait recipe, there is flexibility. As long as you layer the ingredients you like best, you're doing it right.
For this recipe, we combined Pumpkin Spice Sugar Free Sinless Syrup and 0% Greek Yogurt. Then added Pumpkin Protein Powder to unsweetened, 100% Pumpkin puree with some cinnamon and a pinch of salt.
We also added hemp hearts, protein granola, and chopped pegans for heart-healthy crunch.
Then assemble in layers and enjoy!
Is Pumpkin Good For You?
Pumpkin is totally underrated as a vegetable. If you think "pie" when you think of pumpkins, you're actually missing out on the health benefits of eating pumpkin.
First of all, pumpkins are low-calorie and high in fiber. That means they're great for reaching or maintaining a healthy weight. Nutritionally, pumpkins are rich in Vitamins A, C, and E and are a good source of potassium and magnesium.
Why Is Adding Protein To Recipes So Popular ?
There are a number of speculations about when and why adding protein to recipes, or increasing protein intake overall became popular.
Some researchers credit the popularity of Atkins, Keto, and low-carb diets as the trigger.
Others in the nutrition field point out that sufficient protein can help retain muscle mass as we age.
Plus, awareness and availability of quality, affordable protein sources like whey or pea powders, chickpeas, and cottage cheese makes it easier than ever to add protein without relying on a meat-heavy diet.
